Donald Trump finally tweets about Stormy Daniels, and it doesn’t even make sense
Last night Stormy Daniels had her say on 60 Minutes about her affair with Donald Trump and the ways in which she alleges he tried to silence her after the fact. This morning Trump finally addressed the Daniels scandal for the first time, sort of, without even mentioning her name or the affair, in a tweet which didn’t make any sense when we first read it, and makes even less sense now.
After Trump spent the past several weeks being completely silent about Stormy Daniels, here’s what he tweeted this morning: “So much Fake News. Never been more voluminous or more inaccurate. But through it all, our country is doing great!” Wait, that’s it? Not only was this overly generic, it was overly tame by Trump’s usual standards of yelling around about supposed fake news. In fact this tweet was downright bookish in nature. Based on everything he’s said and tweeted since he entered politics, Trump doesn’t tend to use words like “inaccurate” when he can simply yell something like “wrong” instead. And he absolutely does not know words like “voluminous.”
So who wrote this tweet? At the least, someone was helping Trump with his tweeting this morning, and it feels like someone else wrote and posted this entirely. Let’s try to put this in context. Two hours earlier, Trump tweeted this: “The economy is looking really good. It has been many years that we have seen these kind of numbers. The underlying strength of companies has perhaps never been better.” Again, this is not how Trump phrases things, and he doesn’t use qualifiers like “perhaps” in the middle of his hyperbolic bragging. In other words, he probably didn’t write this one either.
In fact, shortly after Stormy Daniels’ interview last night, Donald Trump posted a tweet promoting a book that someone wrote about him. These tweets are overly tame, and are constructed with a style and wording that Trump has never used. We don’t think he’s even been involved in any of these tweets. Our guess is he’s curled up hiding under the desk while his remaining handlers ghost-tweet for him to try to keep up appearances.
