Last week Vanessa Trump filed for divorce from her husband Donald Trump Jr, raising eyebrows as it happened nearly simultaneously with the news that Special Counsel Robert Mueller had subpoenaed the Trump Organization for its financial records. Did Vanessa conclude that Don Jr is going to prison? Is this a plan to protect the family fortune against asset seizures? Was it just a garden variety divorce? Now we have another Trump White House divorce on our hands.

This time around the divorce is between Trump’s White House Social Media Director Dan Scavino and his wife Jennifer Scavino. She filed for the divorce in court two months ago, but it’s just now becoming public, thanks to a Huffington Post report (link). Scavino is one of the very few Trump White House senior advisers to have hung in there throughout the nonstop chaos that has chased so many other of Trump’s top people out the door.

The question of course is whether this divorce is relevant to the political landscape. There are two points on that front. The first is that, as Palmer Report has recently pointed out, someone has spent the past few weeks making a mess of Donald Trump’s official Twitter account, botching one transactional post after another. Scavino has traditionally handled these kinds of tweets on Trump’s behalf, and as we pointed out, he’s not traditionally been prone to these kinds of mistakes. Now that we know Scavino is going through a divorce, this could explain why his handiwork has become so sloppy of late. This matters, considering how few people Trump has left to rely on in the White House, beyond Scavino and a few others.

The second point here is that, while the Scavino divorce filing came two months ago, it does dovetail with the recent disintegration of Donald Trump Jr’s marriage. Divorces happen all the time in America, for all sorts of reasons. But Donald Trump’s family members and one of his top White House advisers are both getting divorced in the same timeframe, even as the Trump-Russia scandal threatens to take down the entire administration. If we see another divorce filing soon within Trump’s inner circle, we’ll be ready to call that a definite pattern.
