Donald Trump has a new Melania problem

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

He’s spent the past year waffling on the issues and failing to make headway on nearly any of his erratic promises. But now Donald Trump has finally found an important issue he can firmly get behind: physical assault of women. Nearly everyone in America can rally behind the notion that abuse of women is wrong. The trouble for Trump is that he’s very loudly siding with the alleged abusers and against the women. It’s an utterly bizarre strategic error on his part, and it comes at the strangest possible time.

Trump currently has so many criminal scandals, sex scandals, and incompetence scandals going on right now, the media and the public have at least partially forgotten that his wife is now estranged. In the weeks since Donald’s adult film actress scandal surfaced, Melania Trump has alternated between avoiding her husband and finding ways to humiliate him.

It’s fairly stunning that this hasn’t dominated the headlines, and yet Trump has just that many headline-grabbing scandals in the air. But now that Trump is suddenly taking this demented pro-abuser position, it’s likely to bring his estranged marriage back into focus.

We know why Donald Trump is siding with alleged abusers of women: he’s one himself. He’s defending them as a way of defending himself. We don’t yet know how badly this bizarre development will hurt him. It’s rare to find an issue that the vast majority of Americans agree on. Trump has somehow managed to find one, and take the wrong side of it.
