Everyone piles on after Donald Trump’s idiotic remark about the Women’s March

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. Today is the one year anniversary of the Women’s March, the largest protest in American history, and large numbers of women and men are once again taking to the streets today. While the march is focused on women’s rights in general, it’s also a specific rebuke of Donald Trump, his anti-woman policies, and his status as a self-admitted serial sexual assaulter. Just don’t tell that to Trump, because he doesn’t quite seem to get what the march is about.

The 2018 iteration of the Women’s March has proven to be so popular today, it’s taken over the top trending topic slot on Twitter. Trump seemed to want to get in on the action, as he posted this tweet early this afternoon: “Beautiful weather all over our great country, a perfect day for all Women to March. Get out there now to celebrate the historic milestones and unprecedented economic success and wealth creation that has taken place over the last 12 months. Lowest female unemployment in 18 years!” Uh, wait a minute here.

Is this a lame attempt on Trump’s part at saving face as so many Americans are once again taking to the streets to protest against him, or is he truly delusional enough not to get that they’re protesting against him? House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi made light of the situation, quoting Trump’s tweet and adding “Who wants to tell him?” Congressman Ted Lieu also took him to task, tweeting “Dear Donald Trump: Did you write the below tweet or did your attorney? FYI, the people marching in Women’s March 2018 are not marching in support of you and your TrumpShutdown, they are marching against you and your policies. But I am glad you support peaceful protests.”

Senator Cory Booker lamented that due to Donald Trump’s budget antics, he couldn’t participate in today’s march: “My love goes out to the Women’s March 2018 – I’m with you in spirit. Unfortunately, because of the TrumpShutdown I’m in the Capitol fighting for a solution that gets the government up & running while protecting our military, CHIP funding, Dreamers & more. We will prevail.”
