Donald Trump would like to have this stupid tweet back about the shutdown

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Last night Donald Trump shut down the United States federal government by throwing a tantrum that left both political parties unable to figure out what he even wanted from a budget deal. Americans are squarely blaming Trump and his party for the shutdown, as evidenced by national polls and the #TrumpShutdown trend that took over Twitter as the shutdown was playing out. Now Trump would surely like to have one stupid tweet back about the shutdown.

Here’s what Trump tweeted in October of 2013, when his Republican Party was shutting down the government so it could try to place the blame on President Obama: “My sense is that people are far angrier at the President than they are at Congress re the shutdown—an interesting turn!.” Considering that he’s now caused a government shutdown just one year into his own presidency, Trump surely wishes he hadn’t posted that tweet – if his increasingly addled mind even remembers having posted it to begin with. There’s more.

During that same 2013 shutdown, Trump explained to Fox News why he expected the public to place the blame on Obama: “When they talk about the government shutdown, they’re going to be talking about the President of the United States, who the President was at that time. They’re not going to be talking about who was the head of the House, the head the Senate, who’s running things in Washington.”

Of course Donald Trump also announced during the campaign that “I alone can fix it.” Considering that he alone just broke it, perhaps he’s now wishing he could take back his entire campaign. Meanwhile Trump appears to have canceled his planned weekend gala at his Mar-a-Lago golf resort in Florida. While President Obama was still in office, Trump repeatedly attacked Obama any time he went golfing. Trump has spent more than a fourth of his presidency at his various golf resorts.
