Trump supporters attempt to detain Mayor of London, threaten to hang him

Earlier this week, Donald Trump’s long planned visit to the United Kingdom was officially called off without explanation. The move came just hours after Trump’s profane racist attack on Haiti and Africa, suggesting that the UK decided to pull the plug. Trump blamed it on Obama; the UK placed a wax dummy of Trump outside the U.S. Embassy in London. The antics took a sharply disturbing turn when Trump supporters in the UK attempted to detain the Mayor of London.

A group of racist extremists, who identified themselves as Trump supporters, showed up at a speech being given by London Mayor Sadiq Khan. They announced that they were there to arrest Khan for crimes they had made up. According to a new Washington Post report (link), to show they meant business, they brought a gallows with them, complete with a rope from which they apparently intended to hang him.

Security ended up dispensing with the racist Trump supporters, and then Khan gave his speech as planned. He did ad lib one line, quipping that the Trump supporters who had shown up to arrest him were “very stable geniuses.” This was a direct mock of Trump’s bizarre tweet days ago, in which he incredibly asserted – without any intended humor or irony – that he was a “very stable genius.”

This is just the latest reminder that Donald Trump’s deranged words, actions, policies, and craven racism are having ripple effects worldwide. If Trump had traveled to the United Kingdom as planned, he would have been met by massive protests against him. But he’d also likely have been cheered on by the band of British Trump supporters who were looking to hang the Mayor of London today for the “crime” of being Muslim. Trump has routinely attacked and demonized Muslims, leading to problems for the U.S. around the world.
