Preet Bharara puts Chuck Grassley in his place

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Over the past month, numerous Republicans in Congress have begun smearing and sabotaging Special Counsel Robert Mueller and the FBI, in an increasingly desperate attempt at propping up a criminal and failing Donald Trump. Among them has been Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which has been investigating Trump’s crimes. Grassley launched a full-on attack on the FBI, which prompted former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara to fire back.

Grassley tweeted this: “Law enforcement shld NOT be independent of constitutional oversight. Like the military, FBI/DOJ accountability to ELECTED leaders is essential for liberty. We are ACCOUNTABLE to the PEOPLE in our representative govt. Hoover FBI was unaccountable/did great harm w abuses of power” Of course that would be legitimate, if he weren’t saying it in the name of trying to protect a treasonous criminal illegally occupying the office of President of the United States.

One of Trump’s many felonies in office came when he fired Preet Bharara in an attempt at derailing the investigation into his own crimes; the firing was an act of obstruction of justice. Bharara was quick to remind Grassley that Trump is indeed a criminal, replying with “Correct. But law enforcement SHOULD be independent of political interference. And presidential meddling. ELECTED leaders are not to direct whom to prosecute and whom to protect. As the Chairman well knows.”

Preet Bharara isn’t hesitating to call out Donald Trump and his apologists as he sees fit, often with sarcastic humor. He’s also recently launched a new political podcast. You can follow him on Twitter.
