Congress meets with psychiatry professor about Donald Trump’s mental illness

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Based on his Twitter meltdown yesterday alone, it doesn’t take a medical professional to figure out that Donald Trump is dangerously and derangedly mentally ill. But a large number of medical professionals have come to that same conclusion about Trump, and now Congress has met with one of those medical professionals in an attempt at gaining a better grasp on Trump’s mental illness.

Several members of Congress, mostly Democrats and just one Republican, met with Yale University psychiatry professor Dr. Bandy X. Lee in December for two full days of briefings, according to a new Politico report (link). Even if most of those involved were Democrats, this is still a stunning development: Congress has met with a professor of psychiatry to try to figure out what it can learn about the worsening signs of mental illness being displayed by the President of the United States. It points to Trump’s mental condition reaching a critical mass.

Let’s be clear here: there’s a stigma surrounding mental illness that’s unfairly cast upon all those who are mentally ill. Millions of people live with it, struggle with it, and try to overcome it, and most of them don’t act anything like how Donald Trump is acting. His particular form of mental illness is a malicious one, most commonly characterized by professional as malignant narcissism or sociopathy. Trump isn’t simply mentally ill; he’s deranged. Now we’re entering a period where we’re actually talking about Trump’s mental problems on a mainstream level, and that changes everything.

It may not be a coincidence that this story leaked shortly after Donald Trump’s demented Twitter tirade yesterday, which saw him threatening nuclear war, demanding that people be arrested for no reason, threatening to launch a new game show, and bragging about the size of his anatomy. Although Trump’s mental problems have been on display from the start, it appears that we’re finally entering a stage where the media is willing to say what the public has seen all along – which means Congress can push the matter as well.
