Donald Trump’s collapsing White House suffers resignation of second key adviser in two days

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Will the last person out of Donald Trump’s White House please turn out the lights? Trump has already suffered more high profile resignations and controversial firings than any administration has ever seen in its first year, thanks to his penchant for hiring incompetent sycophants and outright criminals. Now we’re seeing something else: key people fleeing the White House simply because they’re betting Trump is finished.

On Thursday, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Rick Dearborn announced he’s departing for the private sector. Dearborn has longtime close ties to key Trump-Russia conspirator Jeff Sessions, and he may or may not have ties to Carter Page, but it’s unclear if Dearborn is resigning because of the scandal or because he thinks Trump’s collapsing administration is finished. Either way, it turns out he was just the first of two key Trump White House advisers to announce their resignations in two days.

One Friday, White House National Economic Council Deputy Director Jeremy Katz announced he’s resigning as well. There is no reason to suspect that he has anything to with the Trump-Russia scandal, so it’s a safe bet that he’s simply bailing because he can see the writing on the wall for Trump. Special Counsel Robert Mueller is closing in, even as Trump’s approval rating is the lowest of any first-year U.S. President in the history of polling.

Don’t be shocked if there end up being a whole lot more noteworthy resignations from Donald Trump’s White House over the holidays, while most of the public isn’t paying attention. We’ll see Trump-Russia players bailing out because they’re about to cut a plea deal or because they think they’re about to be arrested. We’ll see non-scandalized advisers bailing because they think the Trump-Russia scandal is going to take Trump down. And we’ll see still more people bail because they’re tired of working at a demented circus.
