James Comey fires back after Donald Trump goes off deep end

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump woke up this morning with a whole new problem. Yesterday he accidentally admitted in a tweet that he knew all along that Michael Flynn had lied to the FBI, which means Trump committed obstruction of justice when he asked FBI Director James Comey to let Flynn go free. Then he obstructed justice again when he fired Comey. Now that Flynn has flipped on him, the entire thing has become an untenable mess for him. So naturally he lashed out at Comey and the FBI this morning in berserk fashion – but Comey defiantly fired back.

Last night Trump tweeted “I never asked Comey to stop investigating Flynn. Just more Fake News covering another Comey lie!” This was long ago proven to be a lie. But that didn’t stop Trump from pushing further. This morning he posted this dishonest and conspiracy filled nonsense: “Tainted (no, very dishonest?) FBI ‘agent’s role in Clinton probe under review.’ Led Clinton Email probe. @foxandfriends Clinton money going to wife of another FBI agent in charge.” His random reference to Fox and Friends in the middle of his tweet strongly suggests that he heard the false claim while watching that particular show on Fox News.

Unfettered by the fact that most observers and respondents were either shaking their heads at his meltdown or simply laughing at him by this point, Trump kept going: “After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters – worst in History! But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness.” That’s when James Comey had enough and fired back.

Comey responded by tweeting something he had originally stated during his Congressional testimony against Donald Trump back in June of this year: “I want the American people to know this truth: The FBI is honest. The FBI is strong. And the FBI is, and always will be, independent.” In the process, not only was Comey defending the FBI, he was also not so subtly reminding Trump that he’s a key witness against him – and that the incident in question will help take Trump down.
