Donald Trump is going down in a heap of self delusion

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Yesterday, at a time when the escalating Trump-Russia scandal already had Donald Trump’s dying presidency hanging on by a thread, the worst kind of news surfaced at the worst time possible: Donald Trump Jr had been in regular communications with WikiLeaks during the general election, discussing illegal things in the process, and the campaign’s entire inner circle knew about it. So how did Trump respond to this crushing news, which will almost certainly send his son to prison? With a massive heap of self delusion.

Every legitimate polling outlet says that Trump’s approval rating is at or near its all time low. In fact he has the lowest approval rating of any first year U.S. President in the history of polling. After the Donald Trump Jr news delivered another bodyblow to what’s left of his presidency yesterday, Donald Trump decided to fight back – by disputing his poll numbers.

Trump tweeted “One of the most accurate polls last time around. But Fake News likes to say we’re in the 30’s. They are wrong. Some people think numbers could be in the 50’s. Together, WE will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” He simply made up the “could be in the 50’s” part, as there is literally no one who thinks that. He included a graphic announcing that the Rasmussen poll now has him at 46%.

If you’re not familiar with Rasmussen, it’s the punchline of political polls. Election results always prove it wrong, and its numbers jump around so arbitrarily that the people running it have to be intentionally screwing with the methodology as they go. In other words, it’s a fake poll. So as Trump goes down for the count, he’s busy deluding himself into believing that his approval rating is in the forties or fifties, when it’s about to drop into the twenties. This man needs immediate psychological help.
