Many Americans spent the first weekend of the new year enjoying time with loved ones or catching up on post-holiday rest. Then there’s Donald Trump, who spent this past weekend… well, it’s hard to quite describe it. Trump spent the whole time angrily ranting on social media as usual. But he also had one of his most senile moments to date – and it wasn’t even clear that it came from him.

Trump posted a news article about a company’s “windfall tax” and then began to rant about windmills. That’s right, Trump doesn’t know the difference between a windfall and a windmill. He also appears to think that a “windmill tax” is a thing. Which isn’t surprising, given how many times Trump has ranted incoherently about windmills of late.

But still, something was off about this one. For one thing, there’s still no evidence that Trump knows how to share an article on social media. So it’s very possible that the windmill/windfall fiasco wasn’t even a senile Trump moment, and was instead a carelessly incompetent move on the part of one of his babysitters. Imagine being a social media ghost-poster for the so-called President-elect of the United States, and you’re so bad at it that you make this kind of mistake – in a way that makes your senile boss look even more senile.

And so 2025 begins much like 2024 ended. Donald Trump is a lot of things, all of them negative. But his most defining trait is that his dementia symptoms have gotten so bad, he’s either making completely senile posts or he’s too far gone to even post for himself.

Trump’s babysitters can try to keep hiding him and covering for him – for now. But that won’t last long. This guy is supposed to show up for an inauguration in fifteen days and act like a functioning adult. Some of his allies are already suggesting he skip the inauguration, citing supposed safety reasons. But it feels like they’re simply trying to give him an excuse not to show his face in public. But good luck convincing Trump, who’s as narcissistic as ever, to skip his own inauguration.

And what happens once this lumbering corpse takes office? The guy’s a zombie, physically and cognitively. What happens when he’s supposed to address Congress, or address the nation? The media can keep ignoring Trump’s worsening senility if it wants. But it’s about to come all the way to the forefront.
