Donald Trump just gave away how much he’s bothered by “President Elon Musk”

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Over the past week we’ve watched Elon Musk essentially seize control of Donald Trump’s presidency before it’s even begun. Musk inserted himself into congressional budgetary negotiations, nearly caused a government shutdown, got Trump blamed for trying to kill funding for children’s cancer, and ended up not getting anything Trump wanted. Not only did it make Musk look like an idiot for his incompetence, but it also made Trump look weak for letting Musk seize power from him.

By the time the week was over, “President Elon Musk” was trending on social media as everyone used the term to mock Trump for his weakness. Now Trump is giving away that he is indeed bothered by the power and attention that Musk is stealing from him.

Trump has finally appeared in public for a bizarre campaign-style rally speech (perhaps someone should tell him the election is over). During his speech he made a point of saying that he knows he’s “safe” in his role as President because Elon Musk isn’t a natural born citizen. No really, Trump said this.

Let’s take a moment to examine just how absurd this is. First of all, Trump wouldn’t be voluntarily bringing up the topic of Musk stealing power and attention from him if he weren’t bothered by it. So Trump is giving away that he’s indeed becoming irritated by Musk already. But there’s more going on here.

Trump is giving away that when he expressed irritation about Musk to his babysitters, they were able to calm him down by pointing out that Musk isn’t eligible to be President – which is not the point. There’s no scenario in which Musk was officially going to become President in Trump’s place. This is entirely about Musk taking enough power to become the de facto President while Trump officially holds the title. But Trump is clearly so far gone, he doesn’t understand the difference.

Trump isn’t just perturbed by all the talk of Elon Musk stealing his presidency. Trump is so deep into senility, he saw the headlines and thought Musk was going to literally steal his presidency and take the title from him. In other words Trump is every bit as narcissistic as ever, but now his narcissistic meltdowns are based on total confusion brought on by dementia.
