Here comes the Trump credit grab
Starting on January 20, 2025, Donald Trump will surely make a habit of claiming credit for the Biden-Harris administration’s achievements, whether it is because they spill over into his new term or first sprout thanks to the seeds his predecessors planted. Whether it’s about infrastructure, jobs, or the economy as a whole, any positive development, trend, or milestone will be subject to Trump’s revisionist spinning.
A prime example of this is the Good Jobs Task Force, a Biden-Harris initiative that has quietly but greatly reshaped the American workforce. Launched as part of the Investing in America agenda, the Good Jobs Task Force has focused on creating high-quality, well-paying jobs through strategic investments in infrastructure, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing, in a way that should benefit the economy for many years.
Just this past week, the White House released new data showing the impact of this initiative. Federal efforts under the Task Force have prioritized embedding high-road labor standards into programs funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act. President Joe Biden’s Executive Order, signed in September, strengthened this approach, directing federal agencies to align their investments with practices that ensure good-paying, union jobs are at the center of these initiatives.
According to the Task Force’s review, over 80 federal programs have successfully incorporated these labor standards, resulting in substantial improvements for American workers. With more than $84 billion in union-covered construction projects already underway, the initiative is expanding the power of the American worker and improving access to quality jobs across the United States.
Get ready to watch Trump frame all this as evidence of his own economic success, as if everything positive that happens during an administration is always the result of that administration. The Good Jobs Task Force saw immediate success, but it was a deliberate, focused effort to invest in workers and the country’s future. As this success continues over the upcoming months and years, we can expect Trump to try to reshape the narrative—but the facts will show that the credit belongs to Biden and Harris.
