Mike Johnson just got hung out to dry

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

House Speaker Mike Johnson just got some bad news. House Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries has announced that no Democrat in the house of Representatives will vote for Johnson as House speaker, and if any republicans vote no — Johnson’s on his own.

No Democrat will rush in to save him. Johnson is rushing in where fools happily tread. He is indeed on his own, cast out by Democrats, and he may need us to keep his leadership position because this house is like being surrounded by man-eating sharks. It’s just a question of which shark will take the first bite.

With the tiny majority Johnson has, he can’t really afford a house uprising and not even even a teeny-tiny mutiny. After all, people don’t much like Johnson and that includes Democrats AND Republicans.

Really the only reason, in this writer’s opinion, why Mike Johnson isn’t already out of the position is that House Republicans likely can’t agree on who would replace him. That figures. This is a caucus that certainly cannot agree on much including whether the sky is blue..

So much incompetence! So little time to DO something about that incompetence. So Johnson is in a precarious position, as he does not have the support of even one Democrat. This is also a significant shift for the democrats who did help him in the past. No more, says Jeffries. Good for him!
