Donald Trump’s Meet The Press debacle
After Donald Trump was named the winner of the election, he was handed a free pass by the media and his own party for the transition period. But Trump promptly blew that free pass with the Republican Senate with nominations so absurd that even the Senate couldn’t play along. Now that Trump’s transition period is a sputtering disaster for him, he had to limp back to the media today and try to turn things around with a Meet The Press interview.
Trump’s interview wasn’t as disastrous as I’d been hoping. But it still wasn’t good. Anyone in the middle who tuned in after voting for him is going to have serious second thoughts about him. He came off as clueless and confused, with no answers and no plan. The only positive for Trump is that he wasn’t so far gone this morning as to start babbling about cannibals and such.
This interview didn’t do anything to help Trump turn his transition period around. He’s still wasting his political capital on the world’s most ridiculous cabinet nominees. He’s still losing political muscle to the Senate. And he’s still set to enter office as an unpopular lame duck. If Trump and his babysitters were hoping that bringing him out of hiding for one interview was going to fix things, they miscalculated yet again.
