The media has learned nothing
The media are behaving like elementary school children, skipping over hoola hoops instead of mature and somber adult JOURNALISTS who are facing an existential crisis with Donald Trump, a human monster about to take office.
Amid flailing ratings and failing shows, many media pundits are not learning the lessons of treating a traitor and criminal with sunkissed awe instead of real-life repulsion.
Allow me to cite an example. On Sunday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries appeared on”Meet the Press.”
It was good to see him. I watched delightedly, hoping that Jeffries would thoughtfully answer the important questions Welker would ask of him. .
Well — he tried his best. But Meet The Press host Kristen Welker seemed to have her own ideas about what questions to ask.
As this writer watched in utter disbelief, Wekler’s image morphed before my very eyes, into a gossipy busybody, determined to goad Hakeem into turning on his own party.
Welker spent most of of the time trying to get him to say something terrible about Nancy Pelosi. She wouldn’t leave him alone, either. To his credit, Jeffries was polite and repeatedly said there were no hard feelings against Pelosi.
ISN’T THERE, Wekler pressed, It was remarkable. This is what passes for journalism these days.
Do you think Pelosi should mind her own business (my words)? Wekler kept asking with schoolyard delight.
Do you think Nancy is disrespecting you? Weller asked with the triumph of the truly clueless.
It is a stunning thing that with EVERYTHING going on, the media cannot or will not get their shit together. This particular segment I described above was particularly offensive.
No, we are not going to get any help in fighting Donald Trump, not from these people who seems much more interested in hosting gossip tell-alls than serious media shows. That’s why their ratings will continue to nosedive.
