The upheaval is underway already
The upheaval that Donald Trump’s election will cause has already begun as the Guardian reported that Haitian immigrants are fleeing Springfield, OH in droves. Recall that Trump promised to revoke their Temporary Protected Status: “Absolutely. I’d revoke it and bring them back to their country.” This is their country if they have protective status. This just goes to show you how cruel and ruthless the Trump administration plans to be, and they haven’t even taken office. One Haitian in Springfield has spent her time helping Haitian immigrants become comfortable in their new home. Her name is Margery Koveleski, and according to the Guardian, she has noticed a major change.
Instead of looking for help on how to assimilate, Haitians are now coming to Koveleski to find out how to leave. Koveleski said that many immigrants don’t have credit cards or internet access, and they have been asking for help with booking flights. They are in fear of being rounded up and deported and would rather leave on their own terms. One store owner told Koveleski that he’s thinking of returning to New York or Chicago, where he started his life in the states. This is crazy, and it’s not right. These people have caused no trouble in Springfield, yet they fear being rounded up like criminals, especially after they heard that a sheriff in Sidney, OH told Springfield police to “get a hold of these people and arrest them. Bring them-I’ll figure out if they’re legal.” Why does he care? He lives in Sidney, not Springfield. There is something inherently wrong with otherwise law-abiding citizens being treated like criminals because of one hateful man, but they are taking his threats very seriously.

It always has been and will continue to be wrong to lump people together. All people of every race and ethnic background are different from each other. But when one is a racist, they don’t want to acknowledge that and instead rely on their racism to guide them. It’s sad that this is who will be leading our country for the next four years. His racism shows in his cabinet picks-who are all white. They also share the trait that they will never challenge him, no matter how wrong he is, and that is exactly who he wanted in his cabinet.
The last time Donald Trump was in office, we joked about the “Republican clown car.” This time, it’s an entire circus. Joe Walsh, former Republican, now independent, told Michael Steele on The Weekend that Trump’s administration is not a circus but will be “more dangerous.” Walsh went on to say: “Donald Trump has convinced millions and millions of Americans that the Justice Department is our enemy. The FBI is our enemy. Our intelligence community is our enemy.” Now that he has convinced people of this, he will spend the next four years trying to tear them all down. God help us make it through this nightmare.
