Down the stretch in this election, Kamala Harris has appeared to have all of the momentum, in just about every way possible. The question is always whether perceived momentum is translating into actual votes. Now the Harris campaign is confirming that, yes, it very much is.

The Harris campaign is telling the media that they’re winning by double digits among swing state voters who have made up their minds in the past week. This means that Kamala’s rally momentum really is creating a bandwagon effect in which casual voters are deciding to get on board at the last minute. It also means that Donald Trump’s series of disastrous moments, from attacking Puerto Rico to threatening women, is turning the voting tide against him.

Kamala Harris campaign senior adviser David Plouffe added this on Twitter: “It’s helpful, from experience, to be closing a Presidential campaign with late deciding voters breaking by double digits to you and the remaining undecideds looking more friendly to you than your opponent. Close race, turnout and 4 days of hard work will be key. But good mo.” Former Republican strategist Stuart Stevens replied to Plouffe with “Yeah, been on the other side of that. Very true.”

In other words, you’re not imagining it. Kamala Harris truly is surging down the stretch. How is this going to translate in terms of actual voting numbers? There’s no way to say for certain. One new poll has Kamala leading Trump among Puerto Rican voters in Florida by an astounding 85% to 8%. Much as final week polling has to be taken with a massive grain of salt, these numbers are nonetheless eye popping.

So it’s more than fair to say that this election is breaking our way down the stretch, and perhaps even breaking big. None of that is a reason to sit home this weekend. Whether you spend it phone banking, or simply finding three like minded friends to take to the polls with you, this is the weekend to make a difference in the outcome. Let’s go run up the score.
