Collapsing Donald Trump struggles to fill small swing state venue
Presidential races have a way of staying competitive no matter how badly one candidate implodes, but it’s fair to say that Donald Trump is collapsing down the stretch in every way that a candidate can collapse. He’s canceling events almost daily. He’s exhausted and incoherent when he does show up in public. And now things are going rather poorly for him today in a key swing state.
Trump is holding a rally at Mullett Arena at Arizona State University in Phoenix, and the local ABC News affiliate says that the venue is only about 70% full – and that there is basically no one still outside trying to get in. That’s astonishing, given that the venue only holds 5000 people to begin with. This suggests Trump has only been able to draw a crowd of perhaps 3500 people in the biggest city in a major swing state twelve days before the election.
The Phoenix metro area has a population of about five million people, so this is just stunningly weak turnout. Yet we keep seeing this happening to Donald Trump. He just can’t draw a crowd like he used to. Even his own base is too worn out to want to go listen to him talk about sharks and cannibals. While Trump sputters down the stretch, let’s go run up the score.
