Donald Trump’s McDonald’s stunt was good for a few laughs on social media on Sunday even if it was really just a retread on all levels of what he usually does: Basically, his refusal to let a dumb reference go (in this case his insistence that Vice President Harris didn’t work at one of their locations while she was earning money as a college student in the 1980s), and surrounding himself with sycophants while getting the media to highlight the whole thing. Yes, it was all actors that were going through the drive-thru, as the store was closed – and this time, the majority of the media admitted it was really just an odd publicity stunt that wouldn’t really connect him with new voters.

The problem is that it flopped harder than he realized – because it ended with his refusal to say whether he’d increase the wages of fast food workers. A number of his supporters argued on social media that him doing the job in a few hours shows they don’t actually deserve pay increases – which is hateful nonsense that should debunk any talk about the GOP being the “party of the working class.”

McDonald’s corporate office also came out explicitly saying that the former guy’s stunt wasn’t an endorsement for president by the company, and they also went so far as to invite Kamala Harris and Tim Walz to also hold a campaign event at one of their locations, while also knocking down Trump’s own obsessive lie about the vice president. Time will tell if the Harris-Walz campaign will do an event, as we’re in the final sprint to the campaign, but there’s still plenty of ways to get involved and help us run up the score and turn out the people that need to vote. Let’s get Kamala Harris and Tim Walz elected on Nov 5 with a Democratic trifecta.
