Here comes the weird part
As much as Kamala Harris keeps doing everything right, and as much as Donald Trump keeps imploding, this election keeps not changing. The polling averages haven’t shifted. Kamala is still ahead by four points nationally and leading in most swing states. But now comes the weird part.
What do I mean by that? Even as the polling averages have failed to shift over the past week, large chunks of the media have decided to simply announce that the polls are shifting โ in Trump’s favor. Why? The easiest way for the media to get ratings is to act like Trump is going to win. That’s how they get people to stare at their screens in panicked fear for the rest of the election. But if you’re staring at your screens, you’re not doing anything to get your side more votes. Staring at your screen in fear is the least “vigilant” thing you can do.
That said, the fearmongering narratives are likely to become pervasive in these final two weeks. It’s going to get weird. We’re already seeing a growing number of voices in the media referring to this as a “tied” election. This new assessment is based on… nothing. Literally nothing. Harris has the same four point lead nationally that she had a week or two ago. The swing states look the same as well. But the media is always eager to pull a single poll out of context, while ignoring the fact that all the other polls say the opposite, in order to goad you into dropping everything and staring at your screen.
We’re also being subjected to narratives about how Trump isn’t bothering to campaign anymore because he knows he’s already magically got the election locked up. This is kindergarten level nonsense โ no one can ever just snap their fingers and rig an election with any degree of certainty โ yet if you hear this kind of nonsense repeated enough times from enough pundits, it can start to “sound” true.
We’re heading into the truly weird part of this election. Even weirder than Trump standing on stage swaying to music instead of doing a town hall? Yes. No matter how weird an election gets, the media will find a way to make it even weirder. Remember, the media isn’t trying to help one side or the other. The media is simply trying to make sure that you stay glued to your screen these final two weeks. It’s about ratings.
We have to be ready to fight back against the antics, absurdity, nonsense narratives, dirty tricks, and outright lies, that both the Republicans and the media are planning to throw at us in these final two weeks. I’m asking you to help fund Palmer Report’s final 2024 push so we can keep firing on all cylinders down the stretch and make sure we get this one across the finish line. Donate now.
