The Republican Party is falling apart, and this implosion is only helping to pave the way for a decisive Harris-Walz victory. As I have written recently, many prominent Republicans have been putting country over party, speaking out or adding their names to group letters endorsing the Democratic ticket. In addition, as Election Day nears, the argument that the GOP is not fit to lead is coming from more than just the Democrats’ side.

Outraged that her party wasn’t more obstructionist, Marjorie Taylor Greene recently declared, “Republicans don’t deserve to be reelected!” This came after she lambasted Mike Johnson, calling him “the Speaker for the Democrats” simply for letting the House pass a three-month stopgap bill to fund the government, according to a report from The New Republic. Later, Greene appeared to back down a bit by offering this laughably feeble endorsement of her party: “Hold your nose and vote for that RINO that you absolutely hate, because we need a good tax code in place.”

While Greene’s statements may reflect her own concerns, the fact remains that Republicans don’t deserve to be reelected, including Donald Trump winning a second term after his historic two impeachments. Last week, in a scathing news analysis, the New York Times criticized the Republican Party as having “plenty of dysfunction to point to after nearly two years of controlling the [House].”

Almost a year ago, in November 2023, Republican Rep. Chip Roy expressed his frustration with his own party. “I want my Republican colleagues to give me one thing, one, that I can go campaign on and say we did. One!” Not much has happened to improve the GOP’s record since then.

Indeed, between the GOP’s miserable, paltry record and unflattering outbursts like Roy’s and now Greene’s, the Republican Party has become nothing short of a living and breathing advertisement for the Harris-Walz ticket and for voting Democratic down ballot. Republicans need a strong dam to protect against an impending blue wave, and they just don’t have it.
