Who wants a proven liar in the White House, let alone two? Daily Beast recently released some of Vance’s emails from 2020 when he criticized Trump mercilessly. We knew he did that in 2016 and claimed to have changed his mind, but he must have changed it shortly before Trump chose Vance as his running mate. What a couple of losers.

Vance said in 2020: “Trump has so thoroughly failed to deliver on his economic populism (excepting a disjointed China policy).” In fact, the Nation said that Vance gave Trump an “F” for his performance as president. Vance got it right then. As the Nation pointed out, Trump was elected on his promise to make the American economy work for working families. He did no such thing. His main goal once he entered office was obvious: he took care of billionaires, giving them tax cuts, refused to help workers organize, and didn’t even try to keep factories open in communities that were suffering. Vance even considered himself as a “champion of working-class Americans.” Both Vance and Trump are professional liars, and when it comes to the White House, liars need not apply.

We need someone in office who respects our intelligence enough to know that we’re not going to buy into some song and dance. Kamala Harris is that person. Harris has been speaking more about her “opportunity economy,” some of which she has repeatedly shared. She wants to give the middle class a tax cut, give a $6,000 child tax credit to new parents, assist new homebuyers, and give tax deductions to new small business startups. She spoke at the Economic Club of Pittsburgh last week where she made a pitch for job creation programs and said that the economy works best for everyday Americans “when private companies abide by consistent and transparent rules of the road.” She believes in an “active partnership between the government and the private sector,” which she said creates economic opportunity for all. Harris is doing a good job of presenting her own ideas while still celebrating the gains of the Biden administration of which she was a part. The hardest part for Harris is that people are still pessimistic about the economy despite the gains made over the last three and a half years.

Moody’s Analytics’ chief economist Mark Zandi said: “The economy is performing well but is being overshadowed by the angst the typical American has about the economy.” Zandi also provided the following numbers to prove his point: “The unemployment rate is near record lows. Inflation dropped to 2.5% in August from its peak of 9.1% under Biden in 2022, leading the Federal Reserve last week to cut the benchmark interest rate for the first time since March 2020.” Yes, groceries still seem a bit high, but Harris has a plan for that as well. She should have the opportunity to put her plans in place. Whatever her final plans, Harris cannot possibly be worse on the economy than another term from Trump. Besides, Kamala Harris really does care about the people.
