Debate fallout keeps getting worse for Donald Trump
“He was childish, he was creepy, he was cringy.” That is only one of the conservative complaints about Donald Trump’s debate performance, this one from Geraldo Riveria. Even the Fox hosts said that Kamala Harris made Trump “go down a few dog and cat holes.” He bit every piece of bait that the vice president put out for him. One of the worst things he said without baiting was his claim that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, OH were eating people’s pets. It has now become a TikTok sensation with several people telling their dogs no one is going to eat them. Someone has even made a remix of Trump saying over and over “they’re eating the dogs, they’re eating the cats” set to music. These people obviously don’t take Trump seriously. How can other people do so?
Ohio’s Republican governor stepped forward to say there is no evidence of those claims. The result of this flat-out lie is that Haitians are being hurt. One man with whom Yamiche Alcindor (MSNBC) spoke hid both his name and his face because his coworkers on his construction job are constantly asking him if he ate any of the dogs or cats. JD Vance continues to stick to the story, saying that no one has been spreading “false claims.” They know better than this. It is nothing more than some white people’s hatred of brown people. Alcindor also spoke with Bill Monaghan who helps to manage a local Facebook group called “Stop the Influx Into Springfield, Ohio.” When questioned by Alcindor, Monaghan said that he believes some of the claims are credible. He further said: “It’s going to continue to turn basically from an American community to a Haitian community.” Yes, you are a racist. Finally, Alcindor discussed the death of an 11-year-old in a bus crash caused by an immigrant who was ultimately convicted of vehicular homicide. Aiden’s parents, however, have asked that people stop using their son’s death to spread hate. Alcindor believes this all derived from the story of a U.S. citizen who was arrested “over a gruesome incident with a cat,” which happened in another part of Ohio. This is what happens when you lie; good people get hurt, and Trump and Vance don’t care.
Trump continues to lie that he won the debate even when people of his party talk about how poorly he performed. According to Axios, Trump was warned that Harris would bait him. His team worked with him on proper responses, but he couldn’t help himself. We don’t need someone with no self-control sitting anywhere near the nuclear buttons. He tried to help himself by talking about the assassination attempt, but he screwed that up too, claiming that he was “shot in the head.” It was your ear, Trump. There should be no surprise, then, that Trump has refused to debate Harris again. Getting your ass kicked by a woman on national television once is enough, even as he lies that he won. This is not a man who should oversee anything, let alone the United States of America.
