Four years ago, a number of national security experts warned of the dangers of Donald Trump winning a second term and endorsed Joe Biden for president. It’s typically been rare for national security advisors to take sides politically – even if a number of people in that field tend to lean conservative.

It was a sign that Donald Trump was a unique danger to democracy and the stability of the world at large – that so many of them would endorse a political candidate in an open letter. Now, the same people that stumped for Joe Biden in 2020 and helped him win over a number of moderate and conservative leaning swing voters are back again – endorsing Kamala Harris in an open letter, alongside staffers who worked for President George HW Bush as well as Senators John McCain and Mitt Romney.

In all, 238 prominent Republicans, many of whom reside in swing states like Arizona and Nevada, endorsed Kamala Harris for president in this open letter. The letter, further emphasizing Donald Trump’s refusal to concede the 2020 election, underscores why the stakes are greater than ever, enough to put aside any potential policy differences with a future Harris administration to defeat Donald Trump and Trumpism.

Another important thing this letter may do is impact the election coverage in the near future, as there is a clear majority of people that have had enough of Donald Trump and want to see him gone. As important as this endorsement is, it’s also a sign that we need to work harder now than ever to rid the country of Donald Trump and his influence – but this letter drives home a very significant reason to persuade voters to help us elect Kamala Harris and Democrats down the ballot on Nov 5.
