For Kamala Harris and the Democrats, the tide has officially turned in North Carolina

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

A little over two weeks ago, it still wasn’t entirely clear whether the state of North Carolina was going to come into play for Kamala Harris. It was rated “Lean Republican” by Cook Political Report, which meant it was competitive, but Trump nonetheless had a clear advantage there. What a difference two weeks makes.

Kamala Harris made a point of visiting North Carolina two weeks ago, which was the first sign that it was indeed in play. As I often like to point out, candidates and political parties have access to the kind of detailed internal polling that can be more accurate than the public polling that you and I get to see. If she was going to North Carolina, it was for good reason.

Sure enough, now Cook Political Report has changed North Carolina’s rating in the presidential race from “Lean Republican” to “Toss up.” Given that the state is tied and the momentum is in Kamala’s direction, she’ll likely win the state if we start putting in serious work there on her behalf.

Cook has also shifted the race for Governor of North Carolina from “Toss up” to “Lean Democrat” in a reminder that there’s more at stake than just the presidential race. Of course it helps that the Republican candidate for Governor of North Carolina is an extremist who’s imploding. But there’s no doubt that Kamala’s rise in North Carolina is lifting all boats in the state.

So now is the time for us to dive in and help put North Carolina over the top. No matter where you live, you should follow North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Anderson Clayton on Twitter and retweet her regularly. You should also follow and support Josh Stein, the Democratic candidate for Governor of North Carolina. And you should follow and support House Democrat Don Davis, who’s running for reelection in the one truly competitive House race in North Carolina. Most importantly you should all sign up to take action with the Democratic Party of North Carolina no matter what state you live in. You can just as easily volunteer from your living room as you can in person. If Kamala wins North Carolina, Trump and the Republicans don’t stand a chance. Let’s do this!
