Kamala Harris just checkmated Donald Trump
Over the weekend, Kamala Harris unveiled a major economic policy platform during her Las Vegas campaign rally, after the Harris-Walz campaign received their endorsement from Nevada’s Culinary Union. This turned into yet another crushing blow against Donald Trump, whose campaign was trying to get a grassroots thing going by having his supporters write “Vote Trump, No Tax on Tips” on their restaurant bills. Besides this dragging ugly politics unnecessarily into another aspect of life where it doesn’t need to be, there’s something hidden in Trump’s policy that would actually not be so good for people who rely on tips for their income.
The bill that Trump supported wouldn’t actually prevent people that owned restaurants or other service industry businesses from switching their compensation model to tax-free tipping, giving business owners a bigger kickback than anything that lower income owners would gain.
Kamala Harris’ plan, supported by the Culinary Union, would make sure that the no tax on tips is combined with a minimum wage increase. Right-wingers tried to trash the idea with #CopykatKamala tags on social media, but the reality is that they lost one of the few policies they’ve pretended to care about while accusing the Harris campaign of not having any policies
This is how we keep our momentum going as we head into election season. Let’s run up the score with volunteering, canvassing and phone banking and make Kamala Harris our Madam President-elect on Nov 5 with a Democratic trifecta.
