And then there were (allegedly) two…

As of yesterday, Kamala Harris reportedly still had six people on her short list to be her running mate. I never fully trust the media’s reporting on this kind of thing, because it’s based entirely on leaks, and the media can’t always be trusted when it comes to the legitimacy of the leaks it prints. That said, the short list is now reportedly down to just two names.

According to a report from Reuters today, Josh Shapiro and Tim Walz are the only two names still in contention, which a decision expected as soon as tomorrow. Even assuming that the reporting is accurate, it’s not clear why the campaign would put the final two names out there just one day before announcing one of them. This could be a trial balloon to see the public reaction to the two finalists. It could also be that this is outdated information and the pick has already been made.

In any case, I continue to stand by my position that 1) I don’t much care who she picks, and 2) who she picks is much less important than our willingness to immediately and enthusiastically get behind whoever she picks. We don’t have time for anyone to try to make themselves look smart by saying “But I don’t think we can with that pick!” Anyone who talks like this is the problem.

Also, keep in mind that Kamala Harris has access to the kind of detailed internal polling that we don’t yet to see. So when it comes to swing states and key demographics, she’s working with far more information than we are.

So let’s all prepare to get behind Kamala Harris’ running mate when the announcement is made tomorrow, whoever it ends up being. We don’t have time for “but it should’ve been my guy.” Our focus has to be 100% on getting behind the Harris-whoever ticket and winning.
