From out of the ashes
Dedicated readers know that the Palmer Report does not propagate doomsday rhetoric for clicks. If a topic starts trending, we analyze the source and motivations behind it. Take the latest doomsday chatter about the Republican plans to interfere with the November 2024 elections.
Broligarch Peter Th*el funded JD Vance’s ascension to the U.S. Senate and then as Trump’s running mate, and Elon M*sk set up a PAC that has spent over $800,000 on a bait-and-switch voter registration data harvesting scam. Also, of 70 current county election officials, 22 have refused or delayed certification in recent years and are poised to do it again.
Why would tech billionaires risk criminal charges for interfering in our elections after a dozen Russians were indicted for meddling in the 2016 election? Why would Trump and his fake electors risk criminal charges after dozens of indictments already? Why would Republicans publicly leak their ongoing criminal activity? Because they want voters to believe they have a way to win. Don’t fall for it.
As Mary Trump reported, we are on to them. We also have our own tech billionaires, 20 of whom just endorsed Kamala Harris. Applauding the signature Biden-Harris Chips & Science Act, the “VC’s for Kamala” website states, “We are pro-business, pro-American dream, pro-entrepreneurship, and pro-technological progress.” Also, the US Justice Department announced that it is boosting efforts to re-engage with social media firms to avoid election interference. And fake electors be warned, Arizona AG Kris Mayes just announced that one of the indicted fake electors has flipped and will fully cooperate with the criminal investigation.
But even more powerful than law enforcement and tech billionaires is voter enthusiasm. The polls and record-breaking fundraising show overwhelming support for Kamala Harris. A few months ago, I quoted William Ury discussing his book Possible. Ury explained “Why Conflict is Good for Us,” and that “The Exhausted Majority” provides a path back to normalcy. One example, the Northern Ireland conflict that ended when mothers of sons and daughters who died in the war said ENOUGH. That encouraged others until leaders saw the tide shifting.
Ury denounces doomsday rhetoric that feeds the pessimism and drives despair. Instead he sees the opportunity to transform. He is neither a pessimist, nor optimist, but a “POSSIBLE-IST.” With Kamala Harris, the “Exhausted Majority” is energized to transform. We are ready for their continued doomsday rhetoric, distractions, and even violence, all methods of voter suppression and disenfranchisement, that we can overcome.
