Realistically speaking, Vice President Kamala Harris became the 2024 Democratic Party nominee for President the day that President Joe Biden stepped aside and endorsed her. By the end of that day, so many Democratic leaders had gotten on board with Harris’ candidacy, and the groundswell of support from the public was so immediate, that there was never any doubt about Harris becoming the nominee. But today it became official.

Due to an Ohio ballot requirement, the DNC was always planning to hold an early delegate vote ahead of the convention. Sure enough, that vote took place today, and Kamala Harris officially became the 2024 Democratic Party nominee for President of the United States.

At this point it was just a formality. But it’s been a remarkable process. Kamala Harris has only been in the race for twelve days and she’s already the frontrunner with a historic degree of momentum. She’ll likely gain even more momentum during the course of the Democratic National Convention later this month.
