Biden is fine. It’s everyone else I’m worried about.
Joe Biden is fine. The polling averages haven’t really shifted since the debate, meaning it’s still the same tight race it always was. And Biden’s Friday interview with ABC News, along with his recent rally speech in Wisconsin, make clear that he’s just fine cognitively as well. It’s everyone else I’m worried about. Or I should say everyone else but you.
The media is once again making clear that it’s willing to thoroughly embarrass itself in the name of pursuing a phony scandal about a Democratic nominee, and that’s deeply concerning. The New York Times has gone so deep down the “Biden is hosed” rabbit hole that it’s permanently discredited itself on all topics. And George Stephanopoulos has forever scarred his reputation by asking Biden the same incoherently stilted questions over and over during their interview.
But the real problem is the sheer number of folks on our side who are spending every day watching the fictional “Biden is hosed” coverage on MSNBC and CNN, and believe it represents the actual state of things. Put another way: if you thought things were really as hopeless for Biden and the Democrats as these two channels have been portraying them over the past week, would you bother putting in any work to try to help Biden and the Democrats win in November?
So here we are with the entire political media completely off its rocker even more than usual, and with a large chunk of folks on our side staring helplessly in fear at their screens under the mistaken belief that doing so makes them vigilant. That’s what I’m worried about right now.
But the reality is that the rest of us simply have to pick up the slack.
