When it comes to Donald Trump, this isn’t vigilance
Over the last few years, it isn’t often that I cite the Washington Post for really much of anything. We’ve got a media that largely tries to keep up the appearance of being fair and balanced rather than concede to the fact that the reality is anything but that. While the Democratic Party is a normal center-left political party with all of the complications that involves, the GOP is a destructive cult of personality with no decipherable policies, just a whole lot of grievances meant to keep America from transitioning into the 21st century.
This week, however, the paper did get something right – a message that even we’ve been iterating here at Palmer Report for some time: Sometimes the only thing that keeps Donald Trump going is you – and by you, they mean everyone who frets whenever the former guy gets a loss, or a slight win that typically only benefits him for the short term. Panicking and dooming after every move Donald Trump makes on the daily doesn’t really benefit anyone, except making a former president seem somewhat viable – that he actually does have a degree of momentum and he can still come back stronger than ever.
WaPo of course, didn’t try to implicate themselves in all of this – that the news cycle of keeping you tuned in for every threat Donald Trump makes if he’s elected president, is playing a part as well – which is a very good reason for you to turn off the news whenever it switches to Trump’s latest scandal. As much as the former guy likes to brag, he’s actually terrible for ratings and that’s a trend we should keep going. This election will largely come down to the wire no matter what President Biden does in the next four months, which means that if we put in the work where we have to – campaigning for him and for Democrats down the ballot while Trump is campaigning in states he can’t possibly win, we will be the winners on Nov 5.
