GOP insider: Donald Trump thinks Sean Spicer and Reince Priebus sold him out to Robert Mueller

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Over the past week, Donald Trump’s behavior has grown even more frantic, defensive and paranoid than usual. Some of that is no doubt related to his exploding Niger scandal, which grows worse for him by the day and is still just unfolding. But the focus of Trump’s most unhinged rants strongly suggests that he believes Sean Spicer and Reince Priebus sold him out when they spoke with Special Counsel Robert Mueller this week – and you don’t have to take our word for it.

Conservative republican commentator and insider Bill Kristol summed it up this way: “Trump’s tweeting earlier this week & now reflects heightened alarm about Mueller–presumably about what Reince and Spicer may have told him?” (link). After Kristol made this remark, Trump’s tweets spiraled even more out of control, as he became obsessively focused on refuting various aspects of his Russia scandal.

There was this wildly inaccurate claim about the Pee Pee Tape dossier: “Officials behind the now discredited “Dossier” plead the Fifth. Justice Department and/or FBI should immediately release who paid for it.” There was this bizarre mischaracterization of the Russian Facebook election ad scandal: “Keep hearing about “tiny” amount of money spent on Facebook ads. What about the billions of dollars of Fake News on CNN, ABC, NBC & CBS?” Then he began frantically defending his administration’s lack of accomplishments, insisting that his fifty executive orders are actually “legislation approvals” – thus pretending they’re laws passed by Congress (he’s actually passed zero laws).

This comes after Reince Priebus spent all day Friday speaking with Robert Mueller, and Sean Spicer followed him up by spending an entire day with Mueller this week. Donald Trump showed great disloyalty to these two former senior White House advisers when he pressured them into resigning. Bill Kristol is right: Trump has good reason to worry that they sold him out to Robert Mueller.
