Down goes Steve Bannon
Donald Trump has been convicted, even as he awaits sentencing on July 11th which may include prison time. Meanwhile Trump’s longtime sidekick Steve Bannon has been ordered to report to prison on July 1st.
The wheels of justice are turning. Trump is stuck trying to run for office as a convicted felon, and his poll numbers are getting incrementally worse because of it. One of his favorite henchmen will be in prison for most of the election cycle, unable to do anything but pout. The justice system is doing its part. It’s not as much as we’d like, and it’s not playing out as quickly as we’d like. But it’s something. It’s a well timed little boost for our side. And let’s keep in mind that presidential elections are typically decided by a little boost for one side or the other.
But this election will come down to what elections always come down to: our willingness to roll up our sleeves and phone bank and register voters and help drive donations. It made the difference in 2020, and it’ll be the difference in 2024. I know I’ve said this before, but it’s important. It’s something we need to keep in mind at all times, even as various other entities try to condition us into sitting back and treating this election like a spectator sport.
We’re going to win this election by rolling up our sleeves. If I have anything to say about it, we’re not only going to get President Biden reelected, we’re also going to flip the House and keep a functioning Senate majority. So let’s do this. And let’s think of the upcoming Trump world trials, indictments, and prison sentences as a periodic bonus for our ongoing hard work.
