Ugly new poll numbers for Donald Trump after his felony conviction
For months now, many have speculated that if and when Donald Trump was convicted in his criminal hush money case, it might make some waves in the polls. It looks like it has. A new poll from Morningside Consult has revealed a seismic shift in public opinion about the convicted felon.
A staggering 49 percent of independent voters now believe that Donald Trump should end his presidential campaign due to his conviction. This significant change really does have the potential to reshape the whole dynamic of the Presidential race.
If this poll is correct, this is huge. There are some big numbers, but wait, there is more. Some 15% of Republicans also feel the same. According to this new poll, almost 55% of respondents approve of the verdict.
The number who disapprove of the verdict stands at merely 34%. But there is more. In fact, the real surprise to me, which is absolutely jaw-dropping, is that 8% of respondents who identify specifically as major Donald Trump supporters are ALSO upset by the verdict and think Trump should drop out of the race.
While 8% may not seem significant, these are the die-hard MAGA supporters, the bedrock of Trump’s base. The fact that nearly ten percent of these voters are now questioning their support is a significant development and could signal a broader erosion of his base.
These numbers are possibly the worst thing that could ever happen to Trump — well, the worst thing after being convicted and perhaps sent to prison. Like an uneasy aerialist, Trump seems poised to fall and fall hard, doing a downward dog to the bottom. These numbers show the American people are turning against him.
