Donald Trump didn’t just lose his criminal trial in terms of being found guilty. He also lost his trial in political terms, given that only a small handful of his supporters bothered to show up outside the courtroom. Trump’s handlers appear to have told him that his supporters were showing up en masse but were being kept out of his sight by security, as Trump has repeated this false claim several times. But now Trump is totally losing it over his lack of support.

Trump is melting down on social media about how the police were supposedly keeping “law abiding MAGA patriots away” from the courthouse. Trump is also claiming that “insignificant numbers of fully funded Radical Left troublemakers, with brand new and gleaming professionally made signs” were “screaming and cursing from areas said to be closed to us.”

Wait a minute. What? So in Trump’s mind, his supporters showed up in large numbers but the police somehow managed to hide these people? And Trump somehow knows that a small number of anti-Trump protesters showed up with “professionally made signs” even though he admits they were in an area that he couldn’t see?

This is just so plainly obviously a matter of Trump having no idea what’s going on and no recollection or understanding of what’s happening in front of him, only for his babysitters to then feed him an imaginary version of what happened that’s more comforting to him, which he then accepts. This is highly consistent with severe dementia.
