Donald Trump’s N-word scandal is more of a problem for him than you might think

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

There is explosive new reporting that Donald Trump allegedly used the N-word while on the set of the Apprentice. This isn’t surprising. And it’s not the first time that Trump has been accused of using that word. But this could still end up being an impactful story.

Trump’s base may love how racist he is. But his base has never been relevant to the outcome of elections. Elections are decided by people outside your own base. And there are conservatives who are hesitantly considering voting Trump simply because he’s the Republican nominee, who will think twice after hearing that he likes running around using the N-word. Just as there are Republicans outside Trump’s base who say they won’t vote for him if he becomes a convicted felon.

More to the point, this story about Trump using the N-word will likely prompt others to come forward and reveal similar incidents. These kinds of things have a tendency to snowball. But e even people on TV and Twitter try to tell us that this scandal won’t matter because Trump’s base doesn’t care, it’ll be important to keep in mind that Trump’s base doesn’t matter. Trump has shown tremendous weakness with Republican primary voters. These kinds of scandals can make that weakness even more of a problem for him.
