So much for Paul Manafort
Whenever people are washed up and nearing their end, they often try to bring back the people from their heyday – even if those people are also washed up. This brings us to Donald Trump, who is close enough to his end that he’s just about fully senile and he’s currently on criminal trial.
Trump, who seemingly can’t remember who most people are anymore (he thinks Nikki Haley is Nancy Pelosi and he needed a card to remember his kids’ names), is definitely at the stage of his downfall where he’s trying to relive his old glory. To that end he decided that Paul Manafort, his 2016 campaign manager who ended up in prison and is now a radioactively scandalous has-been, should play a part in planning this summer’s Republican National Convention.
The fact that Trump thought he could bring in someone like Manafort, without understanding the flashing red lights it would set off, is probably all the proof you need of Trump’s senility. Predictably, after mounting backlash, Manafort has now decided to withdraw from his role in the convention.
It’s the latest reminder that Donald Trump isn’t playing with a full deck, or any deck. The guy really thought he was going to be able to have Paul Manafort planning the Republican National Convention, and everyone was just going to be fine with it. What next, is he going to pick Al Capone for his running mate? There is nothing left of Trump’s brain at all.
