Good news for Biden in Georgia

Georgia is one of the prime battleground states for the 2024 election – a once solid red state that has become increasingly diverse and voted Democrat on a statewide level pretty consistently since the 2020 election. In another good sign for Democrats in the southeastern state, there has been a significant growth of people in Fulton and Cobb counties – the bluest areas of the state that will deliver it to President Biden in November. Democrats recently just got a boost from an unlikely ally on Monday, the state’s former lieutenant governor, Geoff Duncan, who served under Republican Governor Kemp before he stepped down last year.

Although Duncan has said that he’ll vote for his own party for Congress, he intends to vote for President Biden and encourages fellow Republicans to do the same, warning that the threat of Donald Trump to democracy is very much real. His endorsement comes at a particularly interesting time, as Donald Trump is facing criminal charges in Georgia for election interference, and despite being the presumptive nominee, he’s still seeing a large number of protest votes against him in crucial states he needs to win.

If there’s anything he shouldn’t be seeing, it’s one of the highest level defections yet from his candidacy. It’s becoming more imminent by the day that re-electing President Biden is crucial to preserving democracy in this country – and why we need to do our part by volunteering and phone banking to run up the score and re-elect the president and Democrats down ballot on Nov 5.
