It turns out we didn’t even have to wait until Donald Trump got into the White House before his first high level White House staffer quit. On Thursday, according to CNN Monday, Trump announced that he had appointed Jason Miller as his White House Communications Director. But today, Miller announced that he’s not taking the position after all, essentially quitting after just two days on the job.

In fact, based on this new Politico report, Miller privately begged off the job on Friday, meaning he technically quit just one day after being appointed. But what it may really mean is that Trump and his transition team are in such disconnected chaos that they publicly announced Miller’s appointment without checking with him first to see if he was really taking the job. And this isn’t the first chaotic incident of the month involving Trump and Miller.

One week ago, Daily News Bin reported that Jason Miller tweeting out publicly credit to Donald Trump credit for getting China to return a stolen Navy drone at virtually the same time Trump was ruefully tweeting that China should just “keep it.” The incident made Miller look foolish, and may have led him to conclude that he simply doesn’t want to continue spending his time trying to cover for a guy who is simply too erratic to be covered for. In any case, the Trump team is now a man down with a key position to fill.

According to that same Politico report, newly named White House Press Secretary will now also serve as the White House Communications Director, even though these are two distinct full time jobs. It’s not clear if Spicer’s dual role is intended to be temporary until Trump can find someone willing to be his Communications Director, or if Spicer will be expected to somehow perform both jobs permanently.
