GOP just can’t help itself on this one

It doesn’t seem possible. It does not seem possible that in a country like America, with an election coming soon and millions of voters furious at the GOP, the GOP could double down even more on the topic of abortion.

But double down they are doing, and it’s simply stunning to see. I said once in another article that for Republicans, it was always going to come down to what they wanted more — to win elections or to demonstrate their simmering hatred of women. It looks like the latter is winning out.

The EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) has put into effect a rule that says companies must make reasonable accommodations to pregnant workers, including abortion accommodations. This would fall under The Pregnant Workers Fariness Act.

Some of the things that companies must do is provide time off for abortions, protect pregnant women, and promote healthy pregnancies. Republicans in red states are furious about these rules and have just filed suit against the EEOC.

Attorneys General from a stunning 17 STATES — all red states, of course, have thrust themselves into this litigation, which claims what the EEOC is doing — giving women time off for abortions is “illegal.”

In this litigation, Republicans claim that this rule is “unconstitutional.” They also say it’s overreach and infringes on existing state laws.

As you can imagine, this is going to look terrible for Republicans who have given in to their darker angels and decided, for now, anyway, that trying to stop and prevent women’s freedoms is more important than winning elections. Republicans, deep in their outrage pit over women’s rights, appear clueless over just how awful this makes them look and how ridiculous this lawsuit is. It will be up to us to make them see when we win it all at the ballot box.
