Donald Trump just waved the white flag
If you’ve been following political news at all of late, you know that President Biden’s poll numbers have been slowly but steadily improving of late. One poll after another now shows Biden slightly ahead of Donald Trump. Biden’s lead in recent polls may be uncomfortably narrow, and it’s too early to take the polls seriously anyway, but suffice it to say that it’s not good news for Trump.
So when CNN announced on Sunday that it had conducted a new poll which showed Trump a whopping nine points ahead of Biden, it immediately stood out as a laugh out loud joke. This poll is out of line with all the other polls by a million miles. It’s not to be taken seriously, or even considered at all. The only real question was whether CNN’s fatally flawed poll was the result of extreme incompetence, or some kind of underhanded attempt at chasing ratings. Either way, no serious person would ever give this fake poll a second thought.
Then there’s Donald Trump. He (or his handlers) immediately began bragging about this fake CNN poll on social media, as if it were real. All this does is make Trump look delusional. Worse, if Trump is indeed trying to convince himself that he’s ahead by nine points (or ahead at all), then he’s not going to make any real effort to win.
Trump already seems to be laying the groundwork for losing and convincing himself that it was stolen from him. In other words, he’s giving up. He’s waving the white flag, in favor of delusion. That means that we have an opportunity to put in the work and run up the score, in order to make sure that Biden wins. So let’s get to it.
