More Republican primary trouble for Donald Trump
A president runs unopposed for re-election but only manages to crack just under 80% support in the crucial Wisconsin primary (one of three states he’ll need to win re-election in November). On the same day, his home state is holding the primary and he only does slightly better and still can’t seem to claw back votes from an opponent who dropped out months ago.
You’d have to wonder how this would be covered if the president in question were a Democrat – but it’s actual Donald Trump’s election results in Tuesday’s primaries – where we saw the answer to the question of whether Trump would continue to have problems in the suburbs, in which voters in the Republican primary continued to put in protest votes against the former guy in Madison and Milwaukee causing 20-25% drops in support.
In 2020, Joe Biden won the state of Wisconsin by just 20,000 votes, and there are already more Democrats showing up to vote for his nomination after the primary is over than there are Republicans coming out to vote for Donald Trump.
We’re seeing largely the same pattern that’s been playing out since January with the former guy still underperforming his polls and the Democrats still outperforming their numbers, and in the process, a number of center-left candidates flipped the Green Bay City Council, despite the former guy even showing up to campaign in that city. We’re much further ahead than the media or polling would have you believe – and it’s clear that if we keep showing up, we’ll win in November.
