Jeff Sessions is about to testify publicly before a very angry Senate committee
Even as Donald Trump’s entire administration seems to be in flames this week and he seems to want to burn down the nation accordingly, his Attorney General Jeff Sessions is about to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Based on the generic description of the hearing, it sounds like it’s supposed to be a run of the mill public hearing. But that just changed, because several members of the committee just threw gasoline on his upcoming appearance.
The hearing in question is listed simply as “Oversight of the U.S. Department of Justice” on the Senate Judiciary Committee website. Jeff Sessions is the only witness listed. However the juicy part comes not from the official calendar itself, but from a letter which nine Democrats on the committee have jointly sent Sessions. In short, the letter lambasts Sessions for having inappropriately cited executive privilege during his appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee this summer, as he was attempting to avoid giving anything away about his likely illegal conversations with Donald Trump.
The letter in question isn’t signed by a single Republican on the committee, meaning that none of them are willing to hold Sessions to any official consequences. But with the way these hearings work, each Democrat on the committee will have an opportunity to grill Sessions individually, and it’s clear they intend to hammer away at him. Oh and by the way, this particular hearing is a public one, meaning that they’ll get to roast Sessions in front of a live audience watching at home.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions is set to testify this Wednesday, October 18th, beginning at 10:00am eastern time. According to the Senate Judiciary Committee’s official website, the hearing will be streamed live online (link).
