Despite President Biden’s polling and the relentless handwringing from the media we’ve seen over it, just about every other sign seems to be going in our favor. Despite the fact that President Biden officially became the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee last week after winning the Georgia Democratic Primary by a 95-point margin, it’s clear that our voters are still going to the polls, with primaries in Illinois and Ohio happening on Tuesday.

President Biden dominated both states – earning 10 million votes. This makes him the first president in a Democratic primary to win over 10 million votes – even before a number of the more populated states have a chance to hold primaries. Considering that some of those states have other nominating contests on the same day, he’s sure to exceed that number by the time the Democratic National Convention rolls around in August.

Contrary to what pollsters might say, President Biden is popular enough for voters to come out and support him in record numbers, despite having already locked up the Democratic nomination for president. By comparison, Donald Trump, despite also being the presumptive nominee of the GOP, is getting abysmal numbers of support – not even cracking 80% support in Ohio and Illinois, and just barely getting that amount in Florida. Even in the reliably red state of Kansas, he only got 75% support.

While many argued that the support Nikki Haley got in earlier contests was due to Democrats voting in the GOP primary, these states have closed primaries in which voters must be registered members of their respective party. This doesn’t mean President Biden has a shot of winning Kansas, or even Ohio, but it does suggest that there are Republican voters who are still coming out in protest of Donald Trump across the country – and they are a big enough swing to cost Trump the election in 2024.
