Yet another House Republican heads for the exit
Over the hills and far away, one can hear the pitter-patter of little feet taking a singular group of people far from what was once their fantasy destination. They’re scattering like rabbits. These clowns are scattering as fast as their zigzagging can carry them, away and into the hills, running in desperate attempts to leave behind the one hill they have decided is not worth staying on: Capitol Hill.
It seems incredible. It seems astonishing. Yet it’s true. There has been yet ANOTHER Republican who has announced they’re not running for reelection. Run, rabbit run. Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington state has announced she will not see selection this year.
How many Republicans is it now? It seems I have lost count. One by one, coward by coward, they all fall DOWN.
“After much prayer and reflection, I’ve decided the time has come to serve the people of Eastern Washington in new ways. I will not be running for reelection.”
Rodgers is a high-ranking Congress member, too. She chairs the House Energy and Commerce committee, which will soon be chaired by Democrats when we take back the House at the end of the year.
As for her statement? I will break down what most, if not ALL, of these GOP “I will not run again” statements actually mean:
“I can’t wait to get out of here—this job sucks. My House Caucus is an embarrassment to humanity.”
“Nothing ever gets accomplished, and nothing ever will because I’m surrounded by enablers, provocateurs, and insane people.”
“So I am leaving my job and wish good luck to whatever republican is silly enough to run for my seat. Good luck. You’ll need it.”
So that’s that. However, as the bunnies scatter in the wind like the frightened little things they are, one question demands an answer. Who is next? And there WILL be a next time. That is the one thing we can count on where Republicans are concerned.
At this point, perhaps the question should actually be something a bit different. Perhaps the real question when it comes to Republicans should really be: Who on earth is STAYING?
