Dangerously reckless and hopelessly incompetent

The news is hitting hard on multiple fronts right now as we head into an election year – perhaps the most pivotal one of our lifetimes. Each election gets branded as the most important of our lives, but in a way it actually is at that moment, particularly when it comes to making progress as a country. Four years ago, we united as a party and successfully stopped an aspiring dictator in his tracks. Two years ago, we united as a party and stopped a criminal organization masquerading as a political party from taking over Congress, kept a whole lot of election deniers from the levers of power, and elected state reps that were able to codify abortion rights in a number of states.

We’re now at a crossroads where the GOP has become more desperate than ever for power, as they continue to prove on a daily basis that they don’t actually stand for the things they’ve always claimed to stand for: national security and strong borders were the two that fell apart after this week, with even their own senators revealing that the party doesn’t come to the table in good faith. It’s one thing to keep calling members of one party hypocrites, it’s another to see them fail again and again in real time, something that Johnson’s GOP seems to be good at (maybe the only thing.)

On the same day Republicans essentially put themselves on the record as being for open borders, President Biden ordered a drone strike that took out one of Hezbollah’s commanders in retaliation for the attacks on US soldiers in Jordan. Not much is certain for 2024 but it is a safe bet that the daily news cycles from here until November are going to be at least as turbulent as this last week – and that each day the same pattern will emerge: The GOP is hopelessly incompetent and dangerously reckless while the Democratic Party is consistently competent against enormous odds – and that’s why we need to re-elect President Biden, keep the Senate and flip the House on Nov 5.
