Turns out I’m not the only one who thinks Donald Trump won’t be viable for 2024
Donald Trump won the Iowa caucus this week, which doesn’t mean anything – both because Iowa and New Hampshire never tell us who the nominees are going to be, and because Trump in particular is in for a rough ride with his criminal trials. Yet even as the entire media continues to insist that Trump is a lock for the Republican nomination, an interesting phenomenon is playing out: the general public doesn’t believe it.
There’s an interesting new article from CNN which reveals that the general public doesn’t really believe that Trump is going to be the nominee. And why would they? Trump has been indicted four times, is currently out on bail, and is about to be put on criminal trial and sentenced to prison. It just doesn’t compute to the general public that Republicans would still nominate such a lost cause of a candidate.
This is a good reminder that most Americans don’t sit around watching political news every day. If they did, they’d all be under the impression that Trump is a lock for the 2024 Republican nomination. Instead most Americans think Trump is a goner – which he is.
This CNN article further goes on to quote unnamed Biden 2024 campaign officials who are frustrated that so much of the public thinks Trump won’t be the Republican nominee. Why? Biden wants to be able to campaign directly against Trump, because independent voters heavily favor Biden over Trump, but independent voters don’t believe it’ll be Biden vs Trump.
I still think there’s a chance that the Republicans will take the nomination away from Trump at their convention this summer, given that he’ll be a convicted felon on his way to prison by then. And I still there’s a danger that we could be unprepared for whatever mystery nominee the Republicans pick out of a hat instead.
This notion is further underscored by the notion that the Biden 2024 campaign reportedly wants to run against Trump. And why not? Biden beat Trump by seven million votes last time, and now Trump is senile and on his way to prison.
For as much as Donald Trump still gets portrayed by the media as being invincible and more dangerously powerful than ever, in reality he’s so soft and vulnerable that the Biden campaign wants to run against him. It’s a good reminder that the narratives you hear in the political media often have no connection to political reality at all.
