Robert Mueller zeroes in on Donald Trump and Donald Trump Jr
After having spent months trying and failing to obstruct the Trump-Russia investigation in almost comically incompetent fashion, Donald Trump and his attorneys are trying a new strategy: giving Special Counsel Robert Mueller whatever he wants, and blindly hoping for the best. Trump now delusionally thinks he’s going to be cleared anyway. But the real story – in this same report no less – is that Mueller is zeroing in on Donald Trump and his son Donald Trump Jr.
The story of Trump giving Mueller whatever he wants comes by way of the New York Times. But buried all the way down in the sixteenth paragraph is the real story (link): “Mr. Mueller’s prosecutors have indicated that they plan to ask detailed questions about that statement, written aboard Air Force One, which withheld the purpose of the June 2016 meeting: to get damaging information about Hillary Clinton as part of the Russian government’s efforts to help Mr. Trump.” In other words, Mueller is zeroing in on the false statement that Trump crafted after Junior’s Russia meeting came to light. It’s understandable why.
Trump committed criminal obstruction of justice in front of numerous witnesses, some of whom no longer even work for him, and some of whom will be willing to flip on him to avoid getting caught up in obstruction conspiracy charges. Perhaps more importantly, this will nail Trump for obstructing justice with regard to his son’s secret meeting with the Russian government, which serves to demonstrate consciousness of guilt on Trump’s part – thereby opening the door to prove Trump knew about his campaign’s widespread Russian collusion.
Proving any of these charges is still a phenomenally long and complex process, particularly with regard to leveraging Donald Trump’s friendly witnesses into flipping on him. Criminal cases have to be built against them so they’ll flip, before their testimony can then be used to nail Trump. But we can now see Robert Mueller’s entry point for bringing down the house of cards: he’s zeroing in on Trump’s antics with his son.
